Round 3 of the Offshore Superboat Championships (Coffs Harbour)

Round 2 of the Offshore Superboat Championships

Round 2 of the Offshore Superboat Championships (Australia), saw the R Marine Crawley Racing team visit the beautiful Northern Queensland town of Mackay.

Unfortunately, due to bad weather conditions, pole position racing was cancelled for all teams on day one.

With conditions looking better on day two, teams pulled numbers out of a hat, leaving it up to chance to receive the best starting position. R Marine Crawley racing team drew a lucky 3, giving them a positive start in both race 2 and race 3 of the Mackay event.

As the jaw dropping sound of 600hp engines, echoed through the air, it was evident that the adrenalin rush was about to start. Both race 1 and 2 had teams encounter a big swell and as a result see some wild crashes, closing the race course for long periods of time, while salvage crews assisted in the cleanup.

R Marine Crawley Racing had a good run given the challenging conditions, recording a 3rd and 4th place. The team’s official response from the weekend was; “Andy Smith and Glenn Campbell did a great job controlling the boat in the rough conditions.
